Water balance treatment through water electrolysis, details :
The principle
Chlorine production process through salt water electrolysis.
The chlorine (Cl) and the sodium (Na) are the principal salt constituents.
Sodium chlorine (common salt) dissolves when introduced into pool water.
When salt water flows through your electrolyser’s electrodes the Na+, Cl-, OH- and H+ ions coming from the electrolysis phenomenon combine to form sodium hypochlorite (NaClO). Sodium hypochlorite in contact with water (H2O) forms Hypochlorous acid (HClO) and soda.
Hypochlorous acid is a very powerful oxidizing agent combining several properties:
- Oxidizing and destroy bacteria with nascent oxygen
- Attacking viruses on their protein’s amino bonds
- Blocking enzymatic activity of the proteins contained in the algae
Both, hypochlorous acid (HClO) and hypochlorite ions constitute what we call ‘free’ chlorine.
For the electrolysis process of chlorine production oxygen and hydrogen (H2O) are necessary.
Chlorine compounds (chloramines) are destroyed passing through the electrodes and release chlorine which is to be reused.
With only a low salinity of your swimming pool, the salt chlorinator will produce, through electrolysis process, a strong disinfectant rich of active chlorine. After the disinfectant action, this oxidizing agent is able to disaggregate and to return to its salt primary form. In consequence, there is no consumption of salt in this process.
In brief, salt water passes through the electrolysis cell producing the disinfectant. Pool disinfection. Disinfectant destruction with sun rays effect and bathing. Salt recombination in water.
The electrolysis water treatment increases the pH of your pool water, so combining it with dosing diffuser regulating the pH range is very convenient and recommendable.
